Hi,
Is there anybody that could indicate me the difference between the bootstrap (RXboot) program (0x2101) and ROMMON (0x2120). My understanding of ROMMON is that this can be used on 2600 series router to change the register settings, look for a valid image in flash, download using TFTP, XMODEM but bootsrap functionality is unclear to me.
Litterature seems to confused bootstrap and ROMMON.
Does ROMMON and bootstrap has the same functionality and both coexist on a router series like the 2600 or does bootstrap is only supported on older series of router.
Does ROMMON supported on newer series of router like the 2800 and the 3800.
Thanks
Stephane

Hello,
Bootstrap is more like BIOS. It will initialize the basic device drivers and
then will execute the IOS image. So, ideally, when the device is working in
good condition, the bootstrap will initialize the flash disk and then copy
the IOS into the RAM, and initialize IOS execution. If, for some reason, IOS
execution fails, then it will copy the ROM Monitor software into the RAM and
then execute that. ROM Monitor software (ROMMON) is a recovery console
through which you can recover the device from software failures.
Hope this helps.
