Is there a way to configure the console port on a
800 series (831?) for use as a terminal server async port to remotely conn
ect to another devices console async via a telnet to the 800 series, similar to
the use of a 3600 series as a terminal server?

I've seen all that, typically need the following:
line con 0
modem enable (makes it usable like an aux port)
no exec (disables the prompting and interaction to the command line ((EXEC)) by devices attached to the phy port)
This answers only 1/2 of the question, how does one access con 0
as a term server port, convention for an aux port is typically:
telnet aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd (ip address on router, say Loop0) xxxx (port associated w/ the line for the physical port, aux is typically 200x) or...
telnet 192.168.0.1 2001
Thanks in advance

Correct, reverse telnet to port is done in the way you described.

I agree, it /should/ work that way, but..........
on an 857 it is not working that way, or at least I've not found the correct port number to us in the reverse telnet command, so........
does anyone know what the associated port # for a reverse telnet using the console port in place of the aux port (the 800 series doesn't have an aux port) on these platforms?

Do "show line" and you will see the possible numbers to use.
