Remote Access to Secure Series 500 router

Answered Question

Hi all, I know this question is probably asked all the time but I am wanting to allow remote access through ssh and possibly telnet from WAN on a secure series 500 router.  I've configured the firewall settings with the Cisco Configuration Assistant mostly.  Is there any step-by-step way that normally works for allowing these connections and if so could you give me a step-by-step example.  I greatly appreciate it.

Hi,

Normally you would not want to allow telnet on the WAN side (unless is your only option).

To configure SSH, you need an IOS image that supports encryption ''shows k8/k9 on the image name''

Normally to configure SSH, you do the following:

Configure hostname

Configure domain-name

Generate RSA keys

Enable AAA with a local user

Authenticate SSH agains the local database
