Device: Cisco AIR AP1240 Switch configured as a Bridge that is connected and associates with AP's in a WLAN.

Question: What is the significance of the Virtual-Dot11 Radio' s associated with the device? For example, virtual-dot11radio3.

Virtual Radio is a "virtual" link between the root bridge and the non-root bridge.  It's also a very, very good way of troubleshooting.  If you don't see the virtual radio interface then your point-(multi-)point bridge isn't working.

If there are more than one virtual radio, if one is down, does this mean the BR as a whole is down?

No.  If you have two radios and, say, you configured two different bridges.  This means you'll have two virtual radios.  If one goes down, then the remote goes down (obviously) but the second one can remain up.  It all depends on your configuration, the range, the signal strength, etc.
