ASA5505 Hung - Reboots

Unanswered Question

I recently acquired a ASA5505 and have encountered the following issue:

After upgrading the ASA to 831 and ASDM to 6.31, system has been encounting the issue mentioned earlier.  Is there anyway I can reset back to Factory defaults and attempt another image from RMON Boot?

System consistently stops as shown below:

You will need to setup a tftp server to load the code and boot the asa from it, then when you are actually in the firewal and be able to login, you need  to  tftp the image you want onto disk0, as the code you load in rommon is in RAM. When you get to the point of tftp the code to disk0 do not  forget to update your boot statement to point to the right imaged in disk0

Follow this process

As for the ASA5505 Hung  try re-downloading a fresh code, make sure when you download the code verify its md5 has integrity as code may have been corrupted during its download,  here is a good thread  on how to very code integrity

If downloading a newly fresh code and still fw hungs with code 8.3.1   I  suggest open a   TAC case if you have SMARTnet services.

Thanks..  I will try that..   The image I uploaded to FW was from the CD from package so I doubt it would have b

een corrupt.   Loaded it using ASDM.    Left the ASA un-plugged for 10  minutes and powered it up and now works.

Is there a heat issue or anything like that relating to Power Supply or unit itself?

Thanks for your response..  Will let you know what happens.

Did the unit record a crash? "sh crash" show any output? If so, it could be a software defect. If it doesn't record a crash and reloads

at random times, pls. open a TAC case and request an RMA.

It only shows the following:

ciscoasa> en
Password: ********
Invalid password
Password: *********
ciscoasa# sho crash
No crash file found.

------------------ show crashinfo module 1 ------------------

INFO: There is no module in slot 1 to retrieve crashinfo from.
INFO: This module has no crashinfo available.

It is working now since I powered the unit off for 15 minutes..   Just dont want this to occur again later since I just purchased it I want to get it RMA under warranty if this is the case.  Is there anything else to run in terms of diagnostics for reseller as I don't have a Service Agreement.

I tried changing just the power supply and a 5505 still reloaded at random times and did not record a crash.  I got the unit replaced and that took care of the problem. I suggest you open a TAC case if you have smartnet and get the unit replaced it it continues to just reload at random times.
