Cisco Catalyst with mixed interfaces 10 Gbps and 10/100/1000

I work for a small company (about 210 - 215 employees), and we're in the process of a couple of projects which go hand-and-hand together.

The first project is building a new data center. We are not a Cisco shop, predominately D-Link. With the new data center and all new cabling, we are talking about moving from D-Link switcesh to 2 Catalyst switches running HSRP.

The 1st Catalyst would 24 ports all running 10 Gbps, and the 2nd Catalyst with one 10 Gbps interface and 24 ports running at 10/100/1000.

I'm not exactly sure why the 2 Catalysts would have different interfaces, except cost may be a concern. My manager just dropped me an email from the field.

My question is: Is this possible?

Thank you in advance.

Sure, there are switches with your required configuration.

For 24 x 10G interface, you can take a look at the Catalyst 4900M (the 10GB ports are not wire speed)

For 24 x 10/100/1000 and 2 x 10GB, you can take a look at the Catalyst 3650X (there isn't a 24 x 10/100/1000 and 1 x 10GB configuration)

jeye, thank you for the response.

The Catalyst 4900M looks like what we're looking for. Can I do a 24 x 10/100/1000 and 2 x 10GB in the 4900M as well?

Never mind. I was reading Table 2 and I found the configurations.

Okay, I am glad that you find it.

and the 2nd Catalyst with one 10 Gbps interface and 24 ports running at 10/100/1000.

If you want a Layer 2/Layer 3, then what Jerry has recommended, a 3560/3560E/3560X or 3750/3750E/3750X is the way to go.  The main difference between the two is that the latter (3750/3750E/3750X) can be stacked to form one virtual switch.

If you want Layer 2 only, then 2960S.  The "S" means that you can also Stack multiple 2960S to form one virtual switch.

Thank you for the additional feedback. It's given us a lot to discuss and think about.

As I mentioned, we are building a new data center. One of our ideas was to put 10 Gbps switches in place. However, we use Check Point as our firewall and they have only certified 2 Intel NICs that are 10 Gbps and would work with the Catalyst 4900M.

We had thought about Cisco, because we wanted to make use of NetFlow as we continue to expand both arrea of network and applications. I realize that 10 Gbps may be pushing it, as it doesn't seem to be standardized just yet. But having the hardware in place would put us in a good position to make the leap.
