why SCCP phones are always using system:/its/vrf1/XMLDefault.cnf.xml?

brunoserrano

Level 1

I have a CME 8.1.

The problem that I have is that any phones do not get the SEPXXXXXXXXXXXX.xml configuration file and usign the default XMLDefault.cnf.xml instead.

The phones get the new firmware but not the language files. They do not even ask for it. Here you will find the debug tftp events and the debug tftp packets.

I though you were trying to do multiple locales, not a global one.  p.bevilacqua is right that the perphonetype CNF is fine if you want the same locale for all phones.

For starters, it looks like you don't have the ephone type specificed under the phone, which may be why this phone isn't getting the locale info.  I would first add that, rebuild the CNF files, and see what happens.  Also, locales work differently for different phone types.  What type of phone is this?

Configuring system-defined locales depends on the type of IP phone:

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7905, 7912, 7940, and 7960—System-defined network locales and user locales are preloaded into Cisco IOS software. No external files are required. Use the network-locale and user-locale commands to set the locales for these phones.

Cisco Unified IP Phone 7906, 7911, 7921, 7931, 7941, 7961, 7970, and 7971, and Cisco IP Communicator—You must download locale files to support the system-defined locales and store the files in flash memory, slot 0, or on an external TFTP server. See the "Installing System-Defined Locales for Cisco Unified IP Phone 7906, 7911, 7921, 7931,7941, 7961, 7970, 7971, and Cisco IP Communicator" section.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/admin/configuration/guide/cmelocal.html#wp1087072

You can do a 'more' on the CNF file for the phone that the alias is pointing it to,and see if the locale is in there.

Use perhaps IOS 15.0(1)M3 that works well.

There is no issue in downgrading.

12.5(1)M3 is not a valid IOS release.  I'm not even sure what you were referencing here--15.0(1)M3 perhaps?

Either way, the behavior described is not a bug, and is expevted behavior.  If you want the phones to have their own unique CNF file, you need to specify the command:

telephony-service

cnf-file perphone
no cre cnf

cre cnf

Then, 'sh telephony-service tftp' should show the alias for the SEP.cnf.xml pointing to a unique CNF file for each phone.

You only need to specify 'cnf-file location' if you want the files stored in flash instead of in memory.  That's your call.

sholl wrote:

That is the issue here, lack of tftp binding as you can see above.

Thank you for pointing to the misspelling in IOS 15.0.

The issue is that in  'sh telephony-service tftp' should show one SEP.cnf.xml for each phone but I do not see any SEP.xml file

Normally this file is created the first time that the phone is registered on the CME but the problem is that right now no mother how many times I connect the phones, they are using the XMLdefault.cnf.xml. The phones are working fine but they do not upgrade the language.

Use stable 12.5(1)M3 as indicated above and it should work.

Other IOS are often too buggy for real use.

I have 3 other CME 8.1 and IOS 15.1 working fine...

But is not working well in this case, and nobody cannot tell what the problem is.

So you can stay with the problem, or try my suggestion.

Bruno,

Did you specify 'cnf-file perphone' as I suggested in my previous post?  You need that to do what you are trying to do.

If you still have issues, please post current output of:

sh run

sh ver

sh telephony-ser tftp

sh flash:

dir system:its/vrf1
