CCIE R&S Lab - using GNS3

Unanswered Question

Hi,

I am just about to start study for the lab and will use gns3/dynamips. Can anyone tell me which router platforms - available in GNS3 - to use, that are closest to the specs of the routers on the actual exam (this is just to save me working this out myself as I'm assuming lots of people will already have done this??)

thanks in advance

I have this problem too.

The 3745 will allow you to use the 16 port Ethernet module, which is very usefull for creating Ethernet segments.  I also used this rather then the dynamips internal switch.  The 7200 will let you run the latest code, although I had a lot of OSPF and BGP checksum errors on FE and GIG interfaces - which is a bug in Dynamips.

You should try to run the latest 12.4T code, so on the 3745 around 12.4(15)T and the 7200 around 12.4(25)T.

You will need exposure to 3560s, if you don't want to buy them I found www.cconlinelabs.com to be one of the cheapest.  I used PDX06 and Cisco360 practice labs, which for about $1200 gave me 30 x 11.5 hour full practice labs (including the Cisco360 workbooks).
