how to password recovery cisco 2503 router when jump to zero

I have an old cisco 2503 router in my work. I have to test something and

i choose to use it. When I entered this router, there has password (it seem to be set by old employee ) . I don't know password and i decided to recover password, reboot router, enter rommon mode, But whenever i type confreg 0x2142 , it's jump to original user mode. can't recover password.

what should i do ?

Your question brings back memories of doing password recovery on 2500 routers. The key thing to understand is that confreg is for operating systems more recent than what is running on the 2503. The key to password recovery on the 2503 is to get into rommon and then to use the o/r command to set the config register. For details please see this link:

thz a lot . now i can resolve this problem  with o/r 0x2142 ,

i was confused with confreg 0x2142 command with cisco 2600 series & 2800 series, i forgot for 2500 series. Thz a lot for adivse , all experts.
