Migration from PVST to Rapid STP

We are planning to migrate from PVST mode to RSTP mode in our Production Network having 6 Switches (6509). We have a critical trading network so need to be aware of the impact of the migration and the necessary configuration other then

spanning tree mode rapid-pvst

Please discuss.

First, I suggest reading the following document that discusses a migration scenario from PVST+ to RPVST+:

Migrating to RPVST+ will be most probably disruptive to the network operation, therefore it is recommended to plan this operation to a maintenance window. The outages will be caused by all ports on the reconfigured switch to going into Discarding state and negotiating their RSTP roles and states anew.
