Thanks for the response. When I checked out the site though, it says the maximum CF is 512MB and not 1GB as you mentioned. Could you be referring to the DRAM?

I need to get somethings clear. If I have on the 3825 a 64MB CF, can I just buy any CF that is 512MB and have it installed on the router to replace the 64MB? Say for instance I purchase MEM3800-128U512CF, will I still get the 512MB i am looking for?

Can someone be so kind as to explain the details of these part numbers to me:

MEM3800-128U512CF

MEM3800-64U512CF

My goal is simple, I have a 64MB factory CF on my router and I want to now have 512MB CF on the same router (3825), what are my options in achieving this goal?

I seem to be having conflicting information from the Cisco website.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/prod_qas0900aecd8016a953.html - This webpage, under MEMORY section confirms that the base config of a 3825 is One 64-MB Compact Flash, one 256-MB DDR-SDRAM with ECC

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps5855/product_data_sheet0900aecd8016a8e8.html - This webpage says the default config is 128MB CF and 512MB DDR-SDRAM

I know for sure that my router comes with the 64MB CF and 256MB SDRAM, both of which I intend to upgrade to 512MB and 1024MB respectively. What I would like to know is what modules do I purchase to help achieve this goal?

You can upgrade the Flash up to 1GB,

Sorry NT.  I'll disagree on this.

I don't know what the manufacturer's stand on this but I've got >30 3800 and they are all loaded with 2Gb CF (maximum supported size).   Anything above 2Gb and it will take a loooooooooooooooooooooong time for the router to read the CF.

Alternatively, I've also upgraded the bootstrap so I can boot the IOS from a USB stick (maximum size 2Gb).

NOTE:  The 2Gb CF and USB flash drives are NOT from Cisco.  *wink*, *wink*

As it is, you could use whatever you want once you have the hardware. If

that works, that is great. What I was referring to is the officially

supported compact flash on the router (I erred when I said it supports 1 GB.

Officially, only 512 MB is supported). While other sizes could work on the

router, it is not tested thoroughly by Cisco QA, so it is not recommended.

Also, since Cisco officially does not support higher capacity CF card on the

router, there is no specific part number listed for that hardware.

I really can't do anything about the CF factory upgrade because the distributor cannot order it seperately, I have to order the MEM3800-512CF, but if I can order the MEM3800-256U1024D instead of the MEM3800-512D (X2), will it help achieve my goal of upgrading the router to 1GB DRAM?

     If you are able to order MEM3800-256U1024D, that will be fine. That part is 512MB x 2 as well
