Does removing a port from a port channel group effect the rest of the group?

Hi Guys,

I have a 6500 running CatOS 8.4. On this device I have a ether channel group with 4 ports assigned to it. Only 2 of the ports are in use. I wish to reuse the unused ports but before I can do so I need to remove them from the group. If I do this using the set port channel mod/port mode off command, will this affect the active ports/ether channel?

TIA

Hello,

Generally, removing a port from the port channel should not affect the

overall operation of the etherchannel. You could first physically disconnect

the port (thereby forcing the switch to load balance the traffic between the

remaining interfaces) and then remove the interface from the channel group.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Nagaraja.

It worked just as you said. No impact on the port channel.
