This is our equipment:
1) External internet line from local ISP
2) Cisco 2106 WLC
3) Cisco 1131 Access point.

All we want is wireless internet access in our boardrooms for guests. NO access to our corporate network.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

cannot get internet access with 2106 WLC / 1131 AP ....either directly OR via laptop wireless connection to the AP .
We tryed connecting our corporate network as a test but cannot access it either.

Have tryed various vlan / wlan /web-auth configurations, changed phisical ports and cannot get any response to pings ie. www.cisco.com. OR http://anysite.com  have read every tech note I can find including:
ACLs on Wireless LAN Controllers
Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide
Wireless Guest Access FAQ's
Wireless LAN Controller Web Authentication Configuration Example
Troubleshooting Web Authentication

----------2106 WLC---------------------------------------------------
Name..................................... Cisco Controller
Product Version.................................. 6.0.196.0
RTOS Version..................................... 6.0.196.0
Bootloader Version............................... 4.0.191.0
Emergency Image Version.......................... 6.0.196.0

------------1131 ap-------upgraded from autonomous to  LWAP----------------------

So............. either we are missing something VERY basic  OR the Controller is a DUD.

We just can't believe setting up something so simple has turned out to be this difficult.

Any ideas?   Even just a hint?

Are the guest clients getting a valid IP address?

Have you tried using open or no authentication?

DHCP is giving out correct address.

In fact I've had no problem setting up scopes and having the WLC give the access point the correct ip.

We have tryed every combo of authentication including absolutely none.

Do we need a router between the WLC / Ap or internet/network connection ? I don't think so but I've been wrong before.

Thank you for responding. We have been at this for 2 weeks and just can't believe it's this difficult.

You helped me discover I needed to convert the access point from autonomous to lwapp, do we need to do something like that to the WLC ?

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

How is the ISP link presenting itself?

Not quite sure what you need but hope this will explain.

We use 2 different companies both give us the usual basics when we directly connect an XP machine:

EPIK for example gives us:

dns suffix: net-conex.com

IP of 10.182.0.2

gateway: 255.255.255.0.

DNS: 216.81.55.55 /216.81.56.56

We don't have to configure anything on the computer itself like proxy or dns etc.

I can't ping anything when we connect the internet line to the WLC either from the CLI or the GUI nor can we reach any website

It's like we can't get any physical port to communicate with any other physical port.

ie. if i connect the internet line to physical port #3,  the access point to physical port #5 and the XP machine (management interface) to physical port #1

nothing will go between the three ports

Is this what you are looking for?

The WLC is NOT connected to a core switch.  The ONLY equipment we have is as noted above:

1) External internet line from local ISP
2) Cisco 2106 WLC
3) Cisco 1131 Access point.

4) XP machine to access the management CLI and GUI

All we want is wireless internet access in our boardrooms for guests. NO access to our corporate network.

No. we cannot ping the WLC from the XP machine connected to the management interface

I have included a diagram

So it looks like you have a direct connect right to the WLC. Ive never doen this myself, but i suppose you will need to create routes in the WLC for the isp to speak to the WLC. You will also need to config the WLC port coming in from the ISP. .

Sounds like fun ..

Post your config please...

do a show run-config
