crash catalyst 2350 when changing vtp transparent to vtp version 3

Hello,

during configuration of  a cisco WS-C2350-48TD (PowerPC405) processor (revision A0) with 131072K bytes of memory switch

running flash:/c2350-lanlitek9-mz.122-52.SE/c2350-lanlitek9-mz.122-52.SE.bin

i found that after minimal config and then switching from vtp transparent to vtp version 3 the switch will crash and go into endless-boot and write flashh full of crashinfo files. Since serial break did not help, i had to go to the switch and use the button on the front to come into the bootman to be able to clear the config file and recover .

Here ist a short way to reproduce it (i tried an other 2350-48 for that):

conf t

user cisco privilege 15 password cisco
enable secret cisco
vtp mode transparent
exit
wr

conf t

vlan 2
name vvv-2

vlan 3
name vvv-3

vlan 4

!
!... etc...

!

vlan 98
name vvv-98
!
vlan 99
name vvv-99
!
exit
exit
wr

Here the boot-loop-crash-write starts.

Any Ideas ?

I didn't find buginfos for this or newer IOS.

Will this happen also for the near relative 3560E ?

Thank you for any hint,

Jürgen.

Yes, this explains it.

Funny that i could not find the bug thru the Bug Tollkit with the keywords "crash vtp version 3".

The fixed IOS is from 12 AUG, last time i checked for a new one was 11th AUG.

I will update an idle 2350 and check.

Juergen.
