VLAN routing issue

I have a C857w on a remote location and the users cannot ping the default gateway, yet they can gain access to the Internet. The routing has a VLAN setup and in the configuration there is a command line of:

ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer1

ip route 192.168.5.0 0.0.0.0 Dialer 1

My question is shouldn't VLAN1 be in place of the Dialer1? The other network is over a IPSEC L2L VPN Connection.

Hello,

I am assuming that dialer1 is connected to your ISP. In that case, what you

are seeing is correct. Your default gateway points to the Dialer1 interface.

Since the IP of the default gateway is not known, you are pointing your

default route to the outgoing interface. VLAN1 is significant for your

internal networks only. It will not show up on the route statement for

external (internet) routes. As far as pinging the default gateway is

concerned, are you talking about ISP default gateway? Sometimes, the ISP

will block ICMP traffic to protect their network from attacks. You might

want to first find the default gateway address and also find out if they

have allowed ICMP.
