HSRP V1 and HSRP V2 on same switch

%FHRP group not consistent with already configured groups on the Switch Stack

We are running HSRP V1 on several VLANS on a 3750G swtich. We want to use HSRP V2 on the new interfaces because it allows for higher group numbers that can match higher vlan numbers. When I setup a new VLAn 633 by entering the statements below I get the error above. The documentation says that V1 and V2 can reside on the same switch as long as they are seperate interfaces. Should I be able to run both versions on the same switch?

Hi,

The doc says for IPV6 group, same rule apply for IPV4 as well.

When configuring group numbers for HSRPv2 and HSRP for IPv6, you must use group numbers in ranges that are multiples of 256. Valid ranges are 0 to 255, 256 to 511, 512 to 767, 3840 to 4095, and so on.

Examples of valid and invalid group numbers:

–If you configure groups with the numbers 2, 150, and 225, you cannot configure another group with the number 3850. It is not in the range of 0 to 255.

–If you configure groups with the numbers 520, 600, and 700, you cannot configure another group with the number 900. It is not in the range of 512 to 767.

My HSRP V1 groups are all from 1 - 255. So are you saying if I want to run HSRP V2 on the same switch but a different interface, we have to use group numbers from 1-255 still?

Also we have done teh same setup on oru 6500 switches and it works fine. We used HSRP V1 groups from 1-255 and HSRPP V2 groups of 800 and above.

Is there a limitation on hte 3750 swtiches?

Yes.

First, HSRP V1 doesnt coexist with HSRP V2 on that switch.

Second, even you convert all group to HSRP V2, you cannot configure groups in different N*256 range. For example, one group in 256, the other group in 257.
