Cisco 2800 Firewall

Hello. I just received some 2800 firewalls from a customer that is needing configured for another customer. I do not have the password to reconfigure it and I have removed the flash card, put an update IOS onto it and a new config file but it doesnt seem to work. I believe the file is loaded into the nvram:start-up and I have no clue on how to blow that out so that I can reset everything. Kind of need to know as soon as possible as I have to get these out soon. Thanks for your time.

Alan

Hello,

Please follow the below procedure:

>> Remove the flash card
>> Boot the router. Router boots up to "ROMMON>" prompt Put the flash
>> card back into the router Enter "confreg 0x2142" and enter Router
>> might ask you to reset. Execute "Reset" or powercycle the router Now
>> router will boot into "Router>" prompt. Execute "enable" command and you will be back in the exec mode with no configuration in there.
>> Execute "config terminal" command. You will get "Router(config)#"
>> prompt Execute "config-register 0x2102" command Execute "exit"
>> command Execute "write mem" command

Now you are set with ability to reconfigure the router.

Hope this helps.

When I tried to boot it up without the flash card in it, it doesnt do anything, just sounds like its trying to boot up but it doesnt bring up any prompt inside hyperterminal. I am at a lost. What should I do with it now? Its been trying for over 5 minutes now. Got the BAUD set at 9600 do i need to lower or higher it?

Hello,

The baud rate is correct. Please try putting the flash card back in there, power cycle the router and when it starts booting (within first 60 seconds of the power cycling) hold down the Ctrl key and hit the break key multiple times. That should break the boot sequence and get you into ROMMON mode. Then you can follow the procedure listed in my earlier post.
