NIC Teaming CUCM 8.0?

Hello,

I'm curious to know more about NIC teaming for CUCM 8 servers.  From what I understand, running the command set network failover enable will enable this feature, but am wondering how this affects the licenses I've already uploaded (as they are associated with the server's original interface.)  Is this all I need to run?  Is there a document I can refer to to read more?

I'm also interested in doing this for CCX 8.0 as well.

Hi

For CUCM there's no effect on licensing - older versions use the first physical NIC MAC, newer use a generated 'license MAC' anyway.

On previous versions of UCCX nic failover was not supported as the second NIC was assigned for SPAN, this version doesn't use the second NIC in that way so as far as I can see you can enable failover on that and it will work the same way as CUCM (i..e the license MAC won't be affected).

Regards

Aaron

Hi Shikamarunara,

Hope all is well with you You should be good to go with the Licensing question.

"NIC Teaming for Network Fault Tolerance

The NIC teaming feature allows a  server to be connected to the Ethernet via two NICs and, therefore, two  cables. NIC teaming prevents network downtime by transferring the  workload from the failed port to the working port. NIC teaming cannot be  used for load balancing or increasing the interface speed.

Hewlett-Packard  server platforms with dual Ethernet network interface cards can support  NIC teaming for Network Fault Tolerance with Cisco Unified CM 5.0(1) or  later releases.

IBM server platforms with dual Ethernet network interface  cards can support NIC teaming for Network Fault Tolerance with Cisco  Unified CM 6.1(2) and later releases. "

And the command to do that as per  the CUCM OS CLI Reference Guide is:

"set network failover

This  command enables and disables Network Fault Tolerance on the Media  Convergence Server network interface card.

Command Syntax

failover  {enable | disable}

Parameters

enable enables Network Fault Tolerance.

disable  disables Network Fault Tolerance.

Requirements

Command privilege level: 1

Allowed  during upgrade: No "

Thanks for the validation, Aaron, much obliged.

Thank you Aaron, very helpful,

Hi All, Looking for a good explanation from Cisco CCBU on "why" this network failover (NIC Teaming) configuration, would not be supported? We have the ability to enable the network failover on CLI and works perfectly fine. Think I'll take this up with our local accounts team... any feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks, Yavuz
