Answered Question

Hi All,

Need some help. I am trying to configure Cisco Aironet 1142 in Autonomous mode, this AP was previously connected to WLC and from previous post I found that we need to delete and reload the AP

private-multiple-fs, c1140-k9w8-mx.124-21a.JHA

Now when I am trying to configure IP address for AP it is giving error:

AP1142#lwapp ap ip address 10.61.1.151 255.255.255.0
ERROR!!! Command is disabled.
AP1142#

Current flash contents:

AP1142#dir
Directory of flash:/

Please let me know whatelse is needed to get the AP configured in Automous mode.

Thanks in advance

I have this problem too.

The image that is on the device is LWAPP one, not the autonomous.. if you want to use the AP in autonoous mode then the image should be W7.. that is..

c1140-k9w7-mx.124-21a.JHA not c1140-k9w8-mx.124-21a.JHA.

I request you to do download any image from the below link and perform the conversion from LWAPP image to autonomous..

http://tools.cisco.com/support/downloads/go/PlatformList.x?sftType=IOS+Software&mdfid=282439881&treeName=Wireless&mdfLevel=Model&url=null&modelName=Cisco+Aironet+1140+Access+Point&isPlatform=N&treeMdfId=278875243&modifmdfid=null&imname=&hybrid=Y&imst=N

the methos to convert is..

download TFTPd32 from google and install it on ur PC.. point the image that you have downloaded in the TFTP server..

connect a ethernet cable between ur laptop and AP.. both should be in the same subnet.. and connect a console cable and get the hyperterminal console access and issue the command..

AP>en

AP#debug lwapp console cli or debug capwap console cli

AP#config t

AP(confg)int fa 0

AP(confg-if)ip addr (same subnet as that of the laptop)

AP(confg-if)end

AP#archieve download-sw /force-reload /overwrite tftp:///

This will resolve the issue..

Hi Surendra,

Is there anyway to convert Cisco1240AG to IOS mode using CLI instead of TFTP.

pramod@gangoor Wed, 11/10/2010 - 21:37

I know of the TFTP server, is it possible to downgrade with CLI commands just like 1140 AP's.

Thank you,

surbg Wed, 11/10/2010 - 21:42

Hi Pramod,

yes it is possible and its the same method.. instead of selecting the 1140 image.. provide the 1242 AP image.

lemme know how this works out for you!!

Hi Surendra BG

Thanks for the post . I did come across a situation to change 1142N-A-K9 from light weight to autonomous mode.

Here the process was very simple. But I have to break my head for finding the correct method. I have pointed the image in tftpd32 as per your instructions and also connected my laptop using straight cable to AP.also assigned the ip 10.0.0.2 to my laptop.

i was trying to bring the AP to blink red. using the MODE button. During this process of bringing to blinkng red. AP itself started accessing the tftp service  on its own for the file name "c1140-k9w7-tar.default"  Since the file name of my image was something like "c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA.tar" , the AP was not getting the file and after few min the AP goes to mode "ap: " (recovery mode) ,

from here you cannot convert the image. Then i figured it out using wireshark that the AP itself by default gets the ip 10.0.0.1 and access the tftp service with the file name "c1140-k9w7-tar.default" . I changed the image of the file name to this one and pointed my tftpd32 to this image. At the next attempt the AP got loaded to this image and it is now in autonomous mode. i think the commands are not necessary now as the AP have converted the image the K9w7..Thanks for the link . I thought i would share this info as this would help someone like me who is spending more time to do this..

Regards

Sundar
