PoE not working on SPA501G

Hi there

I'm currently evaluating different VOIP phones for use. I odered two SPA501G as they offer PoE. However upon connecting the lan port with the switch, I get no connection/boot up of the phones. Neither of them seem to work. I tried three different switches with multiple ports on each, I tried the supplied cable and other ethernet cables. I just can't get it to work.

Is there any special switch/router required for PoE?

Hi Stephan,

The SPA501G uses;

802.3af-compliant PoE

Are the switches you are using providing 802.3af power?

I don't really know about the switches... I was under the impression that for PoE no special switch was needed. I'll look into that matter.
