Is compatible AP 1242AG with WLC 2112 for indoor mesh?

Hi all,

      I'm working in an indoor mesh proyect and I'm planning to use a WLC 2112 and 7 APs 1242AG and 2 more 1242AG AP but in local mode. The question is if that WLC is compatible with those APs to support indoor mesh, because in the "Release Notes for Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and Mesh Access Points for Release 4.1.192.35M" says that release of mesh image is compatible with 2106 controllers and 4400 series controllers, but it doesn't say it is compatible with 2112 or 2125 WLC nor 2100 series WLC. Normally, when something is compatible with WLC 2106 is also compatible with all the 2100 series, but for the 4400 series it says that and for the 2100 series only says explicitly 2106.

     The other question is if I have to buy an special licence in order to use indoor mesh or I only have to download that image and everything goes ok.

Thanks in advanced.

Guido.

Hi Guido,

With a new deployment you will most likely want to use a 7.x release

for the 2112 WLC. This is fully supported with the 1242's as Leo nicely noted

Cisco Wireless Mesh Access Points, Design and Deployment Guide, Release 7.0

Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers

The wireless mesh solution is supported by Cisco 2100 Series, Cisco 4400 Series Wireless LAN Controllers, and 5500 Series Wireless LAN Controllers. The Cisco 5500 and 4400 Series Controllers (see Figure 14) are recommended for wireless mesh deployments because they can scale to large numbers of access points and can support Layer 3 CAPWAP.

Mesh licenses will be required;

yes it is.

Leolaohoo, are you sure it's compatible? Because for example when I want to see if I can download the mesh software for the 2112 WLC it is not available, instead when I go for the available software for the 2106 WLC the mesh software is available. Have you ever tried or tested that hardware configuration for indoor mesh?

Excuse me for my doubt, but I'm working on this project to sell this solution to a customer and I don't want to make him buy something that afterward he won't be able to use.

Thanks in advanced,

Guido.
