Hi All,
Quick one. The NTP server shows as accesible in the GUI. When i run a Utils ntp status command from cli it shows the active NTP source as the local publisher. I recently upgraded from ccm 4.2 to 7.1.5 has anyone seen this before. All my subscribers are using the Publisher as the time source. I have deleted the ntp source re-added and re-booted the publisher still no joy.
I have also ran utils network capture port 123

Does NTPv3 make a difference or could it be that the ntp server is stratum 14
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Dave,
I believe it could well be the Stratum level;
Ensure that external NTP servers are stratum 9 or higher (1-9).

Hi Rob,
Thanks for the reply.
I think it is running Stratum 14. If you look at the Utils ntp status it shows as 14,

With NTP, a higher numerical value is not the same as a "higher" stratum value. For instance, a Stratum 0 source might be a local root NTP server source, It has the most accurate time. Stratum 1 devices would receive time from a Stratum 0 device. If you are trying to connect to an NTP server with stratum level 14 then as Rob said - this is the likely culprit. As Rob said, you should ensure your server is 9 or higher (i.e., goes down in value, not up). I do not know if your source is internal vs. external. However, you could easily configure a local ISR gateway or other network device as an NTP source and set it as the NTP source for CUCM.

Thanks for that. I will try a local router as the NTP source.
Cheers Fellas.

FYI - a local router will not necessarily be a Stratum 0 or 1 device but it can support being in the 9 or better spectrum. A stratum 0 or 1 may be an NTP server like Symmetricon or something along those lines. You don't necessarily need the most accurate time in the world for CUCM to sync with an NTP source.
Just something to keep in mind.

Hi Dave,
Just one more thing. The customer has given me another NTP server to try. Ican ping it, but the CCM GUI shows it as inacessible. Do know why this could be ???
Cheers

Few things - could be lower stratum than the first server or the same as CUCM GUI is rejecting it. Could also be firewall - hard to say on this end.

Hi Rob,
The URL is faulty

Hi Dave,
My understanding here is that the lower the Stratum number the more trusted the source
(ie:1 being the highest Stratum level) . That being said, 14 would not meet the CUCM baseline
criteria
Cheers!
Rob
PS: the link works fine for me??
