Why do we need upgrade CUCM from 6 to 8?

Hi All,

I see lots of people are upgrading the version 6 to 8. One reason I can come up with is the virtulization. I can install the server in VMWare servers. That's good thing. Other than that, is there any other strong reason to upgrade to 8? Thanks.

There are many new features that are available in 8.x (not available with 6.x) and upgrading to the latest version is always good as it will contain the fix for many defects from the older versions and include new features.

Again, if your current cluster 6.x is stable (not running in to any issues with your set up) it is your decision whether an upgrade is really required. Basically it is your call on whether you want all the new features (documented in the release notes) and want to stay up to date with all the latest features/firmware etc or just want to continue with the current stable environment.

Unfortunately no one can give you a straight answer without knowing what features you use and what features you might be interested from 8.X.

Review the link and if there are many other features you could use or need to use, then it's probably a good choice to upgrade.

Just to add a note to the great tips from Java and Lakshmi (+5 each)

Many UC engineers try to steer clear of .0 builds like 8.0 as they tend

to be quite Buggy. This principle carries over from 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0

and 8.0 seems to follow the trends we've seen previously

There have been seven 8.0 releases since February of this year, four

of which were quickly deferred;

I think many people here would recommend going with 7.1(3b)su2 as it has proven to be an excellent
