cisco 3020 and 4506 port speed issue

Hi guys,

I am trying to setup a trunk connection between C4506 and C3020 Blade switch the problem is that when the 2 sides are in auto negotiation mode they negotiate the speed of 100 even if they are connected to GE port, if i force the 2 sides to speed 1000 the ports remains down.There are no errors shown in interface counters. Anybody has an idea what could cause this.

Hi shen,

I have faced similar problem with cisco switch: 3750 and the solution was to use 4-pair cable rather than using patch-panel

with 2-pair cable.

Please try to chane cable to that of 4-pair if you are using 2-pair cable.

Gigabit uses all 4 pairs for gig speed . If you have patches or any wiring that has less than 8 wires gig is not possible.
