Yes, you need CTMS, and a CUVC as 9971 does not support TIP (MUX) and is considered an Interop endpoint

more info in CCO look for CTMS + Interop

The latest version of CUCM (8.5) suppports the native inter-op. Its going to be supported officially in 8.6 CUCM version onwards.

That's great news.

I'm just wondering if native interop will include 7985s and other video phones, or just the 99xx series and future releases?

Regarding your question for the  C7985 . With version 7.1.3 the C7985 will work.

Check CCO URL :

Q. What video conferencing equipment can interoperate with Cisco TelePresence?
A. Essentially, any endpoint that can interoperate with a Cisco Unified Videoconferencing System will interoperate with Cisco TelePresence, including standards-based H.320, H.323, SIP, or SCCP video conferencing endpoints. This interoperation facilitates connectivity with most endpoints from Polycom, Tandberg, Sony, Aethra, VCON, PictureTel, VTel, Huawei, and Microsoft. It also includes the Cisco video endpoints-Cisco Unified Video Advantage, Cisco Unified Personal Communicator, and Cisco Unified IP Phone 7985G.

Yeah we are actually already using CUVC - I was reffering to "native" interop as outlined above.  Thanks though.

On the software downloads page I can see a new release CUCM 8.0(3a)SU1.  Is this the latest release, or are my contract associations preventing me from seeing version 8.5/8.6?

hdewulf Mon, 11/08/2010 - 23:13

From this CCO URL :

8.0(3) is the latest test version with Telepresence.

The other CUCM version for  8.0.2 and 8.0.1 has a tftp bug that will cause issues upgrading.
CSCti95982    CTS xml config file is not migrated completely if the size exceeds 4k
