I cannot confirm that, as I don't have where to test this now, but Cisco says that this IOS:

12.2(32.8.11)SX247
12.2(33.5.2)SXH
12.2(33)SXI2
12.2(32.8.11)XJC273.1
12.2(32.8.11)YST273.3.1
12.2(32.8.1)YCA273.3
12.2(33)SXH6

Are bug free in regard to CSCsx20862 bug:

http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit/search/getBugDetails.do?method=fetchBugDetails&bugId=CSCsx20862

You need a CCO account to access that link.

If everything is working fine, I would suggest to stay with the current IOS and upgrade when you have the chance to do it.

Hello!

I've check your bug details and I see that "This issue is cosmetic", so there is no impact on VSS operation, just is unpleasant to see it there.

What IP are you trace to ? Is your trace successful?

If you check the condition: "Any IP packet generated by IP broadcast, such as traceroute and  ping destined to
255.255.255.255 address." and problem description: "
The above message is reported when the packet got dropped.", these let me the idea that your traceroute is not successful, the packet get dropped and you see this message.

Cheers,

Calin

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

My trace is successful . I am trying to ping ip address of another branch over WAN.

should i keep as it is ? or is there any way to resolve this ....................

According to Cisco, there is no workaround for this behavior, except if you upgrade IOS. It seems that this bug is not affecting:

12.2(32.8.11)SX247
12.2(33.5.2)SXH
12.2(33)SXI2
12.2(32.8.11)XJC273.1
12.2(32.8.11)YST273.3.1
12.2(32.8.1)YCA273.3
12.2(33)SXH6

of higher.

As I said in my first post, it will not affect your VSS functionality, but it's upleasant to see the error there. So, you may stay with this error or upgrade IOS (what version do you have?)

Cheers,

Calin

Thanks for your quick response.

You have 12.2(33)SXI2a, and Cisco recommend that 12.2(33)SXI2 is bug free. In my head also SXI2a should be bug free, but if this switch is in a test environment or if it doesn't affect productivity (I see that it is up only for 6 minutes) can you download and boot with 12.2(33)SXI2 IOS image? In this way you can see if Cisco is right and your problem should be fixed. If it's not working with 12.2(33)SXI2 you should open a TAC case, if your device is covered by a support contract.

Cheers,

Calin

Hi,

No, this is in production and it is working fine ,.... i can not disturb the set-up till it finalize or confirm that this is bug and i have to go for IOS upgradation.

Thanks for sharing knowledge.

I cannot confirm that, as I don't have where to test this now, but Cisco says that this IOS:

12.2(32.8.11)SX247
12.2(33.5.2)SXH
12.2(33)SXI2
12.2(32.8.11)XJC273.1
12.2(32.8.11)YST273.3.1
12.2(32.8.1)YCA273.3
12.2(33)SXH6

Are bug free in regard to CSCsx20862 bug:

You need a CCO account to access that link.

If everything is working fine, I would suggest to stay with the current IOS and upgrade when you have the chance to do it.
