Catalyst 6500 supervisor 2/MSFC2 RAM memory

Giorgio Romano

hello everyone,

I write to ask you which command I have to enter to know how much RAM memory is installed on a Cat6000 Supervisor Engine 2 and how much is installed on a MSFC2 routing engine (separately).

I posted the "show version" and "show module" output of the catalyst.

The catalyst is running IOS 12.1.27b-E4 release software

The "output interpreter" tool said that the memory installed is 512 MB but i need to know how much is on the Supervisor end how much is on the Routing Engine.
Thank you very much to all!

Your route processor has 512mb of ram.  To find out how much the switch processor has run the command "remote command switch show version".  That will tell you how much memory is on the switch processor.

As per the output of sh ver, your sup2 has 64MB of RAM. The MSFC2 has a fixed amount of DRAM (256M) and this cannot be upgraded.

Two links to verify this and to provide additional info:

SUP2 upgrade procedure:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/hardware/Config_Notes/78_12693.html#wp29446

MSFC2:

hi leo!

thank you for your answer.

but I really don't understand where you read those informations.

I suppose that this row from "sh ver" can help me but it seems to say that on the router there are 512 MB RAM.

"cisco WS-C6509 (R7000) processor (revision 3.0) with 458752K/65536K bytes of memory."

where I'm wrong?

thank you very much again!!

giorgio

Yes, you are correct, the two numbers must added of course.

Sorry for that.

The links provided tell you also how much memory is on the MSFC2 and how to upgrade the sup2. (likely not required in your case)

I have been using this info in the past when I needed to upgrade a sup2 from catOS to IOS.

regards,

Leo

Your route processor has 512mb of ram.  To find out how much the switch processor has run the command "remote command switch show version".  That will tell you how much memory is on the switch processor.

hi Matt,

thank you very much for your answer.

I entered the commad you suggested and this is the output

"cisco WS-C6509 (R7000) processor (revision 3.0) with 112640K/18432K bytes of memory."

the supervisor engine has 128 MB RAM.

Thank you, thank you very much!!

Giorgio
