How to configure SPA525 and SPA502 to German

Support Albakom
Level 3
Level 3

Have some SPA525 and SPA502 configured with SCCP at an UC520 with German localization.

But unfortunately not all at the phone is in German. Only some softkeys appaears in german language, the rest still is english, also the whole menu and

some other softkeys.

I've upgraded the phones to Firmware 7.4.6 and copy the newest 7.4.6 XML Dictionary files into the flash of the UC. But it doesnt work.

How I get the phones to german?

Please dont provide me with suggestions using the CCA. This tool destroys my configured dial plan, dial-peers and so on. At least it doesnt allow two-digits extensions phones without users and so on.  However, I look a manually solution.

The process to localize the SPA525 Phone is:

1.- you need to extract from the spa525_dictXML_7_2_5.zip file the spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml (Yes you need to include English in the process in order to work) and spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml, anyhow I am attaching the 2 files into this email

2.-  Upload via (t)ftp the 2 files to the UC Flash

UC540#copy ftp flash

Address or name of remote host [192.168.10.111]?

Source filename [uc500.txt]? spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml

Destination filename [spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml]?

Accessing ftp://192.168.10.111/spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml...

Loading spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml !

[OK - 72099/4096 bytes]

72099 bytes copied in 6.808 secs (10590 bytes/sec)

UC540#copy ftp flash

Address or name of remote host [192.168.10.111]?

Source filename [spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml]? spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml

Destination filename [spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml]?

Accessing ftp://192.168.10.111/spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml ...

Loading spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml!

[OK - 72328/4096 bytes]

3.- In telephony service configure the following:

UC540(config)#telephony-service

UC540(config-telephony)#user-locale DE

Updating CNF files

CNF files updating complete

UC540(config-telephony)#network-locale DE

Updating CNF files

CNF files update complete

4.- Tell the  Phones where to find the files:

Conf ter

tftp-server flash:/spa525_EN_7_2_5.xml alias English_United_States/525G-dictionary.xml

tftp-server flash:/spa525_DE_7_2_5.xml alias German_Germany/525G-dictionary.xml

end

5.- Finish

----

The procedure for 521 and 524,

1. download file CP_521_524_Dictionary.tar from:

https://upload.cisco.com/cgi-bin/swc/fileexg/main.cgi?CONTYPES=UC500

2. copy files en_v_22_0_c.xml and fr_v_22_0_c.xml to flash

3. then paste:

conf t

tftp-server flash:en_v_22_0_c.xml alias English_United_States/524-dictionary.xml

tftp-server flash:fr_v_22_0_c.xml alias French_France/524-dictionary.xml

end

wr

------

and for the 50X will be, (sorry i had it in french, just use the correct dictionary)

The French Local files for the SPA50X phones are available here https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9931/

and the procedure is to copy this 2 files (enS_US_v615.xml and frS_FR_v615.xm) into UC500 Flash:

-    Please use FTP or HTTP to copy this 2 files, do not use tftp.

then

En

Conf ter

tftp-server flash:/enS_US_v615.xml alias English_United_States/50X-dictionary.xml

tftp-server flash:/frS_FR_v615.xml alias French_France/50X-dictionary.xml end wr

*****

substitute the X for the correct phone type

*** example for a 504G Phone

***

*** tftp-server flash:/enS_US_v615.xml alias English_United_States/504-dictionary.xml

*** tftp-server flash:/esS_ES_v615.xml alias Spanish_Spain/504-dictionary.xml

***

Please notice that you will need the English Files as well

*****

Then on telephony-service

UC540(config)#telephony-service

UC540(config-telephony)#user-locale FR

Updating CNF files

CNF files updating complete

UC540(config-telephony)#network-locale FR

Save your configuration And reload your phones.

please rate if this solves your question.

Hi,

thanks for answer.

I do it so and place the following commands for the phones after copying the files to UC flash:

UC520_LB(config)#tftp-server flash:/phones/525/spa525_en_v746.xml alias English_United_States/525G-dictionary.xml
UC520_LB(config)#tftp-server flash:/phones/525/spa525_de_v746.xml alias German_Germany/525G-dictionary.xml

Then I updated the user-locale and network locale in telephony-service.

I factory reset the phones.

Now: nothing softkeys are labeled. All are grey without fonts. The phone menu also all in english.

So I reboot the phones again and now it works. Thanks for help!

kind regards,
Alfred

Dear Alfred;

Services menu will stay in English, this is a system limitation that will be addressed on SW pack 8.6 scheduled for next calendar year.

For the other buttons, can you please explain which ones stay in English?

Regards

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for your fast answer - so my customer has to wait for the next update...

I didn't check all buttons, but DND, LiveRecord and more remain english - although I prefer "LiveRcd" over "???" (the german version on 79xx phones).

If you need more information, tell me and I'll check.

kind regards,

Alfred

Perhaps there is no need to wait until the offical fix, and I am not sure if this would help you, but as a workaround what we did was to:
UC560# conf ter
Enter configuration commands, one per line.  End with CNTL/Z.
UC560(config)#telephony-service
UC560(config-telephony)#cnf-file location flash:
UC560(config-telephony)#cnf-file perphone
UC560(config-telephony)#user-locale DE
UC560(config-telephony)#end

Then we found on the flash in the its directory

UC560#show flash:
/*/

203          0 Jan 22 2010 14:54:48 its
204         56 Jan 22 2010 14:58:32 its/SEPDEFAULT.cnf

215       2907 Jan 22 2010 14:59:14 its/germany_SCCP-dictionary.xml

now we copy all the content of the germany_SCCP-dictionary.xml into a  notepad and edit it to what should have

then we
