With the crossover cable, you should be able to successfully run tftpdnld, which is WAY faster and more reliable than xmodem.

The xmodem failure may be because of flow control - Pick a slower xmodem speed or use tftpdnld.

If you can't get a crossover cable, you can connect the laptop and router to a switch.  A direct connection is not needed for tftp.

Hi,

which type of ethernet cable are you using? how is the ftp side port configured( duplex, speed)? On what port of router are you connected( type of interface)

Regards.

Alain.

Don't forget to rate helpful posts.

Hi Alain

Am using a straight through RJ54 cable to connect the laptop to the interface fa0/0 on router before these errors started. That was how l was transferring the IOS to the flash which was working fine.Because l have set up a VOIP lab at home which l transferred the firm ware into the flash for the ip phones to be able to communicate to the CME which is the router 2620XM. I have the console cable which is connected to the console port for my configuration. But since these errors has started, there is no chance for me to connect the laptop to the router because the info will not come up. I could only connect to the router 2620XM through console cable on the console port for the configuration of the router. All it does is to go into the rommon mode when it's been powered up. So to answer the questions you asked, l used a straight through cable to connect to the router on the interface fa0/0. I did think l change the speed to 100 and duplex to full but am not too sure at the moment, l don't want to mislead you.

Thanks

Am using a straight through RJ54 cable to connect the laptop to the interface fa0/0 on router

2600 router FE interface are do not support MDI/MDI-X.  So you should use cross-over cable.

Hi

l have connected the laptop with the cross-over cable and this the result that l got. Ready to receive file c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-9.t2.bin ... that was where it got stock and no file was transferred after this point. I waited for 30mins and nothing happened. Any solution please.

I know this post is old but I've just had a similar problem.

1. Connect to the 1st port of the router, as in the 1st ethernet port.

2. Use a crossover cable

3. set speed and duplex at both ends (eg on computer / laptop - 100/Full an router in rommon use FE_SPEED_MODE=3)

4. I'm assuming that you have already set the other variables

5. type the command to download the ios image....away you go...

If all else fails, then use the switch.

Well thats how ive just done it on a 2611XM.
