Thank you all for joining the Facebook forum today! in case you missed it, here's the excerpts from the forum.
Q. Can you start off by introducing what the Nexus 2000/5000 can do for audience who don't know about them?
A. Sure! Thanks for asking! Nexus 5000 and 2000 are part of our data center switching products. They are ideal for enterprise-class data center server access layer and smaller-scale, midmarket data center aggregation deployments. They can be deployed across a diverse set of traditional, virtualized, unified, and high-performance computing (HPC) environments. You can find all the cisco related documentation here: www.cisco.com/go/nexus5000
Q. Here's a question that comes up often - What SFPs can I use with Nexus switches? Can you address that?
A. I'm glad you asked. You can use 1 GB or 10 GB SFPs. We have a compatibility matrix for each that lists the part-numbers and type that are supported. For 1 GB: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6981.html#wp139256, For the 10 GB: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/interfaces_modules/transceiver_modules/compatibility/matrix/OL_6974.html#wp55411
Q. Can I use ethanalyzer to sniff traffic between 2 hosts?
A. Ethanalyzer will not be the right tool here. You need to configure a SPAN session. Here is the configuration guide: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/configuration/guide/cli/Span.html.
Ethanalyzer helps you capturing traffic that is destined to the nexus switch itself. Here is information about ethanalyzer: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/configuration/guide/cli_rel_4_0_1a/tsf.html#wp1219544
Q. Where can I go to learn more about Nexus and DataCenter products in general?
A. To learn more about Nexus, Data Center products and more in general about any cisco product, we also have a forum available for anyone to use (you can create your account): https://supportforums.cisco.com/. Regarding Nexus, you can find many questions here: https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/data-center/others. And finally there are videos on demand (youtube format) I have posted here for the Nexus: https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/data-center/others?view=video
For example, here is a video about how to configure vPC (virtual port-channel): https://supportforums.cisco.com/videos/1243
Q. Is Jumbo MTU enabled by default on Nexus 5000?
A. By default the MTU is not jumbo on Nexus 5000, it's 1500. You can configure jumbo at anytime (from 1501 up to 9216 bytes) and this doesnt require a reboot. Here is how to do so: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus5000/sw/configuration/guide/cli/QoS.html#wp1150612
Q. I am used to IOS and under NX-OS I am not able to use IOS commands such as wr mem. Is there any possibility to use such in the future?
A. You can use the ''alias'' function on NX-OS. For example you can use the command ''wr'' for write mem in Nexus, here is the command to configure it: cli alias name wr copy running-config startup-config
Some tips and tricks from Lucien
The Cisco website is a good start to choose your certification track. CCNA is a great certification to learn networking and then there are more specific ones that can be followed (CCNP all the way to the CCIE) : http://www.cisco.com/web/learning/le3/learning_career_certifications_and_learning_paths_home.html. Good luck with your studies and have fun learning networking !
You can read about CCNA here (and find out about the recommend books to study): www.cisco.com/go/ccna

While a reboot is not required to enable this - depending on how you have your FEX configured it will be VERY service interrupting to change the MTU unlike other switching archatecture where the link goes down and comes right back up, the FEX seem like they have to reboot - much longer outage.....
