2960(S) HSRP support

HUBERT RESCH
Level 3
Level 3

Hi, the 2960 series  with LAN Base image now supports a limited L3-routing functionality.

I tried to test if HSRP also works, and surprise, it works.

Because I do not find any document with infos thats HSRP is official supported on the 2960, does naybody have knowledge

if its officialy supported or it "just" works.

Thx

Hubert

I used the Feature Navigator from the Cisco web site (www.cisco.com/go/fn) to find the features supported in your version of code for the 2960. According to the Feature Navigator HSRP is an officially supported feature in your version of code for the 2960.

Hi Richard,

I know that feature navigator shows HSRP as supported with 2960, but to be honest FN ist not always perfekt and configuring HSRP on the

SVI cannot be found in any 2960 configuration guide!?!

So I am afraid that it "just" works ?

Hubert

Hi,

Configuration of HSRP on pair of standalone 2960-S under 12.2.55SE2 caused instability and reloads of catalysts early after deployment. We must remove it from configuration.

Answer from Cisco BU was: HSRP is not supported feature on 2960-S.

Best Regards

Karel

Hi Hubert,

I do not see this feature (HSRP) listed in Cisco feature navigator for catalyst 2960 line. I tried it over a year ago on 2960 and as Karel writes it caused instability issues. And yes it is just working, maybe for some configurations and topologies (needs extensive testing, which I have not perform). I would not recommend for production network.

Regards,

Alex

That is true just because it was left in the code doesn't mean its supported.  I remember on some Cat 4500's with SupII pluses with ipbase software you  could get BGP to work and peer with other devices but it was not supported .
