Hi to all,
i was no able to understand how you can get a link-local address on a serial link.
I'm studying OSPFv3 and serial interface of my router shows:
link-local address is FE80::9CD7:2EFF:FEF0:99FA
I know that has been used MAC address, but which MAC address? How can verify mac address of my router that is equipped with only 4 serial port (emulation using GNS3)?

“For other interface types (for example, serial, loopback, ATM, Frame Relay, and tunnel interface types—except tunnel interfaces used with IPv6 overlay tunnels), the interface ID is constructed in the same way as the interface ID for IEEE 802 interface types; however, the first MAC address from the pool of MAC addresses in the router is used to construct the identifier (because the interface does not have a MAC address).”

Thanks Laurent,
but i already read the suggest link and it was not so clear about "pool of MAC addressess in the router" for this reason i created this discussion.
However i'll start to gather more info using cisco material.

The MAC address pool of the interface is assigned by various algroithms, based on the platform. You should be able to see the MAC address of each interface with the "show interface" command.
