3550 and 3560 - Unable to bring fiber interfaces up

Guys,

Not sure what I'm missing, however, I'm unable to bring a fiber interface up on two switches to trun. Below is the information from running conifig and show int. One swtich is at int gi0/1 and the other at int gi0/3. The link will be configured as a trunk eventually, but for now I just need it up.

Thanks for any and all assistance.

What have you used to connect the switches ie. straight thru, crossover, fibre ?

It's a GBIC connector. When they are plugged into Dell Switches they light up without any issues

take a look on gbic on interface gi0/3.

The media type is "unknown".

Yeah I noticed that. Not sure why it is taking into consideration it lights up when plugged into the Dell Switches. This is why I'm confused

both gbic´s are Cisco or are from other vendors?

How old are the Dell switches? Try "speed nonegotiate" on your interface.

Dell Switches are about 2 - 3 years old

I had already tried  the speed nonegotiate - retry again but it does not work still.

   Being fiber I assume you swapped transmit and recieve around to check .  Also verify it is a cisco gbic in the side that says unknown.

Thanks for the assistance. We changed it to a genuine cisco and it's all good now.

Thanks for all the help. It's very much appreciated the prompt response which I received to my question.

If you didn't have cisco SFP's and you didn't have the hidden command to allow non-cisco sfp's to work, these ports should've been err-disabled?

Actually the port did go into err-disable state at times. Would you mind saying what is the hidden command to allow non-cisco sfp's to work.
