Ian Beck

Hi,

Since upgrdae a 512 WAAS to 4.4.1 which connects to a 3750, WCCP will not associate.

A debug on the 3750 "deb ip wccp eve" gives the following :

Ian,

Can you provide the show run output from both the WAE and the 3750?

Also give the output of show sdm prefer and show version from the 3750.

Have you tried bouncing WCCP (on the WAE no wccp ver 2, wccp ver 2)?

Note when doing wccp with WAE and 3750 these are the requirements/ restrictions:

1) WAE must be Layer 2 adjacent and configured for l2-redirect and mask-assignment

wccp tcp-promiscuous router-list-num 8 l2-redirect mask-assign

2) The 3750 must be running a routing SDM template (e.g. desktop-routing)

3750-Stack#sh sdm prefer
The current template is "desktop routing" template.
The selected template optimizes the resources in  the switch to support
 this level of features for
8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs.

number of unicast mac addresses:                  3K
number of IPv4 IGMP groups + multicast routes:    1K
number of IPv4 unicast routes:                    11K
    number of directly-connected IPv4 hosts:        3K
number of indirect IPv4 routes:                 8K
number of IPv4 policy based routing aces:         0.5K
number of IPv4/MAC qos aces:                      0.75K
number of IPv4/MAC security aces:                 1K

The important entry is:
"number of IPv4 policy based routing aces:         0.5K"

3)  You can only use redirect in statements on your L3 interfaces of the 3750.

4) If you are using a redirect list, the ACL can only have permit statements.

Hi

The enetered command after upgrade was :

changed to

Ian,

I see you were missing the mask assignment requirement.

Also note on the 3750 using show ip wccp 61 the counters there are software based, but this is a hardare based platform in terms of wccp redirection, so the counter "packets redirected" should not increment.

To verify redirection is working on your WAE use  "show wccp gre"

look for the line:

Transparent non-GRE packets received:          1186694

That should increment.

Then of course you would do show stat con to see the traffic (both PT and optimized).

Regards,

Mike

Hi Ian,

Check your WAE for the WCCP Redirect Method and Return Method, it should be WCCP GRE, not WCCP L2.

As Mike is saying the 3750 can not use WCCP L2 only WCCP GRE.

Hi,

If I change the WAAS configuration as suggested I go back to the same issue, broken.

If I revert back to L2 for Redirect Method the Switch and WAAS associate.

What Egress Method to use ?

Thanks

Ian

Jan,

That is incorrect, the 3750 only supports redirect method GRE and assignment method mask.

As Ian has observed if you change it GRE redirect or hash assignment (which is the default on WAAS), the WCCP adjacency will not form between the 3750 and WAE.

You should use the default ip forwarding egress method as that is the only one supported in your scenario (and the only one that makes sense, since your WAE has to be layer 2 adjacent to the switch and on it's own subnet).

Regards,

Mike

Hi,

So is this a bug and I need to revery to the previous version ?

Thanks

Ian

Ian,

This is not a bug, but was a misconfiguration.

In order to successfully do wccp between WAE and 3750 you must configure the WAE like this:

wccp router-list 8 14.110.3.17

wccp tcp-promiscuous router-list-num 8 l2-redirect mask-assign

wccp version 2

Regards,

Mike

Hi,

But it was stated that all redirects should be WCCP GRE.

Just wanting to clarify.

Thanks

Ian,

I did not say redirect method shoud be GRE in this scenario, that was Jan.

For clarification purposes when doing WCCP redirection off a 3750 these are the requirements for the WCCP client (WAAS device in this instance).

Layer 2 adjacent to the 3750

Redirect method = L2

Assignment method = Mask

Here is a link which shows the unsupported wccp features.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/release/12.2_58_se/configuration/guide/swwccp.html#wp1051427

Hope this helps,

Mike
