Route all calls from Avaya gateway through Cisco 2921 to PRI

Unanswered Question
Sep 2nd, 2011

I'm setting up a tie line between a 2921 voice gateway, connected to Call Manager 7 via MGCP, and an Avaya voice gateway.  The concept of what I want to do seems simple but for some reason I cannot wrap my head around how to accomplish this.

I want to send all calls coming in on the tie line port 0/0/1 from the Avaya system directly out the PSTN PRI port 0/0/0, no questions asked.  My assumption is that the Avaya system will validate that the caller has the correct calling privledges and that the number is formatted correctly before the call is passed onto the Cisco VG.

Conversley I want to send most calls coming in on the PSTN PRI port 0/0/0 out the tie line port 0/0/1 to the Avaya system.  Before the call heads out the tie line port I want to append a 6 at the beginning of the incoming number since we're being passed 4 digits but our internal extensions are 5 digits.

There are a few inbound numbers that will be coming in on port 0/0/0 that I want to pull out and send to an AA in Unity, I'm assuming I'd want to append the 6 at the beginning of these calls also to keep our extensions consistent at 5 digits throughout both systems.

I also plan on allowing 5 digit dialing from our Cisco VoIP phones to the Avaya phones, but that part should be a piece of cake.

If someone would be able to give me a nudge in the right direction on what the best way to accomplish this is I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

I have this problem too.

Hi

first of all i think if you convert the voice gateway from MGCP to H323 will be better for you to control the call routing and digit manipulation

once you have it H323

you will need to have inbound dialpeer from the PSTN PRI

i am assuming you have one PRI to be used for Cisco side and yo want to use the other PRI 0/0/0 for avaya

for calls coming from the 0/0/0 to be sent to 0/0/1 you can do this by have translation profile with dial -peers

but as you stated abov eyou have some numbers need to be sent to unity

in this case yo will need to have more specific inbound dial-peers for those numbers for example call to 8000 has to go to AA with number 5555

then create translation rule and tramslation profile to convert 8000 to 5555

then create inbound dial-peer for that number ( if you have sequential numbers you can mask them together )

dial-peer voice 8 pots

direct-inward-dial

incoming called number 8000

translation profile incoming ( ur inbound translation profile )

then you supposed to have an outbound VOIP dial peer for 5555 point to CUCM IP

onc eyou conver the numbers that have to be sent to AA

then create more generic inbound dial-peer for calls coming through 0/0/0 port and append 6 to it

and the make sur eyou have a outbound dial peer wiht destination pattren of numbers start with 6 point to port 0/0/1 to be sent out of that port

and also if the outbound dialpeer going to be ports use the command forward-digit all ( to avoid getting the 6 striped )

Thanks for the info, that gave me a point in the right direction.

I will move to H.323 to allow for greater call control on the gateway.  Below is what I have come up with as far as the translation rules, translation profiles and dial-peers, would someone be able to confirm if this looks right?  The biggest thing I'm struggling with right now is how do you tell if a dial peer applies to inbound or outbound calls from the gateway?  I'm hoping my configuration is right, but that point may have tripped me up a bit.
