Call Manager express on 2811 router

Hello team..

I have a cusotomer with 4 to 5 sites within India.. all the sites are connected by 2 Mbps MPLS link.

Each site is terminated on 2811 router with below image and card..

Image: c2800nm-ipbase-mz.124-3i.bin.

Card: WIC-2T..

Now I need to implement IP-telephony in this network..

As a pilot we are planning to have 2 to 3 IP phones on each site and once it is successfull we will migrate all PBX to IP-Phone.

Number of IP-phones at each office will not cross 50.

Now I am planing to suggest distributed CME at each office and route call between CME's, by upgrading existing 2811 to CUCME 8.0 with lates phones 8900 or 9900 which has inbuilt video in it.

As far as my knowledge i just have to upgrade existing 2811(at all sites) IP Base image to IP VOICE image and should buy a PVDM and a FXO/E1 card to connect to PSTN. AM I right?

Will be there any other challenges that I should consider? your suggestions with your past experiences will really help..

Does 8900/9990 series phones support video calling in Call manager Express??

Call manager express running on 2811 router..

These phones (8900 9990) are not supported by CME (Call Manager Express).

But according to some Cisco document it says it supports:

CME 8.5 provides support for new Cisco 8900  and 9900 Series IP Phones and CME 8.6 will offer enhanced collaboration  capabilities, including video telephony support for Cisco IP phones as  well as native video conference for several Cisco IP phones. Also, CME  8.6 will provide improved mobility by allowing users to access their  business phone extension via their iPhone or iPod Touch devices.

My actual requirement is I need video calling in IP phone, i think 7985 series IP phones with video capabilities have gone End of Sale..

So reading that and some other documents I have since found following my original document search. You'd need CME 8.6 to have IP Video calling using the 99xx or 88xx series phones.

So you can use 88xx and 99xx but you'll need an upgraded UCME version to do this (which is 8.6).

My reply stated that CME which is the older version does not support the phones you mentioned.

UCME - Supported on 8.5 and above (or 8.6 if you want video)

CME - Not Supported.

Now I am afraid if I upgrade my 2811 router with IP Base Image to IP voice feature set does it comes with CUCME 8.6 ?? will I be able to connect 88xx/99xx Ip phones to this?

Hi Raghavendra,

I've done some research for you. The IP VOICE image has CME4.0 and supports UCME for service advertising only for dial peers.

Unified Communications Manager Express (UCME), Voice Gateways and Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE) advertise hosted destination numbers and listen in to advertisements to auto populate dial-peers.
