Hi

I am planning to upgrade my present 7.0 version of my CUCM to the latest 8.5 CUCM. What are the step by step process of this activity and the procedure to do this sucessfully. Do i have to purchase new license for this upgradation ?  Is there a direct upgrade path ? What is the downtime required for this ? Please reply......

I have this problem too.

This is all covered in the product documentation.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Software Compatibility Matrix

Cisco Unified Communications Manager Documentation Guide for Release 8.5(1)

Upgrading to Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 8.0(1) from Release 6.1(2) and Later

Yes you will need a new feature license. This will require an active UCSS contract which will entitle you to place an order in PUT.

that's right about the license.

Once that you got the ISO and is available in for your Presence or UCM only follow this steps:
