ESCON to FICON bridge?

Unanswered Question
Nov 2nd, 2011

I have a client that uses a very old mainframe that can only take ESCON.  Obviously I would like to use a modern director storage platform, and I am looking for a device that can bridge ESCON to FICON.  Has anyone heard of such a thing? Recommendations?

Much appreciated,

Brian

I have this problem too.

Hello Brian,

Older IBM ESCON control units can be connected to a Cisco MDS9000 FICON

infrastructure with the Optica PRIZM FICON-to-ESCON converter

According to Optika, their unit can allow a FICON mainframe to speak ESCON, but not an ESCON mainframe to speak FICON........unless someone says otherwise this is what they told me.

I also spoke to Luminex who has a product that can do this for Tape only.  They had a DASD product but it is EOL'ed, so I am without a solution.

I am sorry that the solution did not meet you requirement.  Looks like you should think about migration.

Cheers
