Hi Guys,
I have a query which has been bothering me. Following are the details,
There are 2 route patterns,
1) 0.00! --> This one points to gateway 10.57.10.7
2) 0.00! --> This one points to gateway 10.57.10.8
Now if a user makes a call which matches the pattern, then,
1) which pattern will the CCM choose (since both are same) ?
2) will the CCM load balance between the 2 patterns ?
Thanks & Regards,
Achilleus

Hi,
Well at least you have cleared up the similar route pattern descriptions.
You can NOT have 2 route patterns with exactly the same parameters like pattern & patition
So what you have is 2 similar patterens.
They are in different partitions.
They are access via Calling search space CSS
Even igf the user has a CSS with both the route pattern partitions in it we still
have ORDERED search
The ORDER is TOP DOWN through the CSS
Eg.
Route 0.00! in parttion BOB
Route 0.00! in parttion SUE
Route 0.00! in parttion JOE
Css - NAMES
partition BOB
partition SUE
partition JOE
Then the search for the matching pattern will stop at the 1st match BOB
In this instance the SUE & JOE routes will not be used.
Where we normally see similar route patterns is for site specific routes
Route 0.00! in parttion SITE-A
Route 0.00! in parttion SITE-B
Route 0.00! in parttion SITE-C
Css - SITE-A
partition SITE-A
Css - SITE-B
partition SITE-B
Css - SITE-C
partition SITE-C

I think you are getting confused across two different bits of CUCM features
Partition order
This only happens if you have two identify DN, Route Patterns, and Translations etc with different Partitions
RP 9.01! Partition PT_PSTN>>>>>Route List PSTN
RP 9.01! Partition PT_WAN>>>>>Route List WAN
User CSS contains both Partitions in the following order
PT_PSTN
PT_WAN
Now a user dials 9.01!, CUCM will select both RP`s but will make use oft he higher ordered Partition in this case PT-PSTN.
The order of Partition was important and an example was with IPMA where the normal route was via the CTI Manager control , if the CTI manage failed then the second Partition was used to bypass IMPA and send the call to a P.A- Basically the order provided a fail over path before Call Forward Not Registered or Call Forward no Coverage was available
Now if you wanted to have an order external links but only have a single RP and a single Partition , you now make use of t the RL setting
Circular , top down etc which can be used to alternatively route the same call to different Route Groups

Hi,
Are you sure these patterns are identical.
Are the partitions not different

If both partitons from each RP are in the CSS the one that has a higher position will be used, otherwise if you only have one partition from those RPs that will be the choice.
This is the only scenario on which the order of the partitions in a CSS matters.
There won't be load balancing, you'll always just use one, assuming you can reach both.

I am not sure about the partition. I'll have to check when i reach office. Although i didnt' understand the second half of what you said. May it will make more sense to me when i take a look at the patterns. Will keep u posted.
Thanks for the reply though.

Hi Java,
All though the patterns are same, their partitions are different. But i am still confused, about what CSS are you referring to?

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the answers guys. Now i get what you all were trying to explain all along. Lemme summarize what i have understood,
1) There cant exist 2 identical patterns with same partition. They have to be in a different partition.
2) Which pattern will be choosen by the CCM when a number is dialed, depends upon the phone/device CSS.
3) If the CSS contains, the 2 identical patterns then the order takes preference.
Now that i look back, i dont believe that i couldn't understand it.
P.S.: Sorry for the delayed response.
