Upgrading ASR1002

Unanswered Question
Dec 5th, 2011

Hi there,

I have a problem upgrading my Cisco ASR1002. It is currently running on IOS image asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.02.03.02.122-33.XNC2.bin. I have already uploaded a new image (asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.02.02.S.151-1.S2.bin) and make the following changes on the router

ASR1002-02#sh run | i boot

boot-start-marker

boot system flash bootflash:asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.02.02.S.151-1.S2.bin

boot-end-marker

ASR1002-02#

However, whenever I reboot the router, it still comes up with the previous image (asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.02.03.02.122-33.XNC2.bin). The router is having 4GB RAM and the reason I want to upgrade the IOS image is that there is a software bug on the current IOS image. Anybody with an idea please?

I have this problem too.

Try this:  boot system flash bootflash:/asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.02.02.S.151-1.S2.bin

Can you post the output to "sh run | begin boot-start-marker" please?

Thanks for the response. It was not actually the boot sysntax, the problem was the IOS image itself which was corrupted. The observation from the console revealed the followings : -

Calculating SHA-1 hash...done

validate_package: SHA-1 hash:

        calculated 89246ab3:fcb13ad7:ba775a49:edac62f1:b0ad9776

        expected   bd99e71d:2ee880a3:6de2c964:76c1ae21:f203a1ab

SHA-1 hash doesn't match

boot: error executing "boot

bootflash:/asr1000rp1-advipservicesk9.03.02.02.S.151-1.S2.bin"

autoboot: boot failed, restarting...

We downloaded the IOS image again and it worked. Thanks for the support anyway.

/auto/tftp-users/user/

please confirm to me

I have never seen this before.  What you are loading is an IOS.  It's not even a bootstrap.  However the IOS you are loading is old.

Depending on what files you have in your bootflash, I wouldn't even configure a boot variable string unless you have two or more IOS files.

zakid Sun, 04/01/2012 - 23:32

Ok If have few questions

What is mean by

Consolidated Packages and Sub-Package ?

and the different between them

and if i want to upgrade the IOS from

asr1000rp1-adventerprisek9.03.03.00.S.151-2.S.bin

asr1000rp1-adventerprisek9.03.01.00.S.150-1.S.bin

To

asr1000rp1-adventerprise.03.05.01.S.152-1.S1.bin

The step for upgrading the IOS  version normal ?

copy tftp to boot flash by using normal tftp software like  3CDaemom becasue the IOS size 303 MB

Router# copy tftp bootflash:

Address or name of remote host []? 172.17.16.81

Source filename []?

asr1000rp1-adventerprise.03.05.01.S.152-1.S1.bin

Destination filename [asr1000rp1-adventerprise.03.05.01.S.152-1.S1.bin] ?

Please confirm to me

Leo Laohoo Mon, 04/02/2012 - 14:53

That's correct.  Copy the IOS from your TFTP server to either the flash or bootflash.  If you only have ONE (1) IOS in the bootflash or flash then you don't need to bother about the boot variable string.

zakid Mon, 04/02/2012 - 22:53

But in case i have already one IOS and i need to add another one and i want to boot from the new one

in that case i need to add the below

Router# config t

Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.

Router(config)#boot system flash

bootflash:asr1000rp1-adventerprise.03.05.01.S.152-1.S1.bin

Router(config)#config-reg 0x2102

Router(config)#exit

Router#show run | include boot

boot-start-marker

boot system flash bootflash:asr1000rp1-adventerprise.03.05.01.S.152-1.S1.bin

boot-end-marker

Router# copy run start

Destination filename [startup-config]?

Building configuration...

[OK]

Router# reload

So the router will boot from the new image right

please confirm to me that
