On Catalyst 6500 series, the chassis itself, supervisors and line cards are covered under the chassis' Smartnet contract. Services modules (FWSM, ASA-SM, ACE, IDS etc.) require separate Smartnet coverage.

Hi,

Marvin Rhoads is correct.

For modular switches such as Cisco Catalyst 4500E Series Switch and Cisco Catalyst 6500E Series Switch the Chassis Based Pricing is followed. Cisco apply service charges on the chassis level; in other words, it will not be necessary to price the cards (except legacy products). Because product configurations differ the service charge will be calculated as a percentage of the average list price of the product. This is similar to the current SMARTnet 8x5xNBD service pricing methodology.

You will see that there is no option for SMARTnet when you configure the line cards as spare because the line card support would be covered by the existing SMARTnet of the chassis.

so in this case I will get two smartnet part numbers one for Chassis , two sups, and line card the second part number for firewall service module?

if yes, so what about this part number CON-SNT-C6509FWM will cover the chassis , 2 sups , firewall , and line card ?

hi Nilo,

may i know our customer has SmartNet for the 6500 chassis, they will have support on all the fiber modules, RJ45 modules, Power supply, Supervisor engine, chassis and Fan right??

they will only need SmartNet for Firewall, IDS and Wireless LAN controller service module right??

looking forward to hearing from you soon.

amr_saudi99  ,

That's correct - assuming none of the modules you have are end-of-life.

what about if the module end of life but not end of support? as the customer has WS-X6716-10G-3C

As long as the cards are eligible for service attachment (as these are per the EoX notice here: http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6500-series-switches/eos-eol-notice-c51-733297.html ) they will be covered.

If there is doubt, your partner should be able to confirm via the Cisco Partner Help Desk.
