4300 keeps stop streaming

Hi guys,

I'm doing some video surveillance deployment right now, and I'm facing some problem with the 4300 series.

it works OK for a few minutes and suddenly it stop streaming for a few second, then it works OK again. The problem is, there are 7 IPC 4300 series, and all of them shows the same issue. When I see in the logs, the camera keeps logging out and logging in from the server frequently.

I've tried to delete and re-add the camera from the server, upgrade the camera to the latest firmware (2.3.1-1.bin I believe), and tried a different authentication on the VSOM, but still no luck.

here I captured the logs from one of the camera,

How are the 4300 cameras powered?  POE from a switch, or external power?  Can it be confirmed that the power is not cycling to the cameras?  Camera cycling can occur from power issues, those cycles are in the range of 45 - 90 seconds to reconnect from my observations.

Regards, Ron

Hi Ronald,

I'm using a PoE. actually I dont think its a power issue, because I can ping and browse directly to the camera without getting disconnected.

Any other idea?

Thanks,

Marcel

Does this only happen when streaming to VSOM? What happens when you watch the video when directly browsing to the camera? Also, you can try to stream to VLC to see if that works well. Also, have you tried different resolutions and bit rates?

With a configuration of 7 IPC 4300 HD cameras perhaps there is network oversubscription.

What is the encoding format and bitrate configuration for the cameras?  What is the maximum bitrate from the camera for the encoding selected? It may be as high as wirespeed (90Mbps) for short times into the POE switch.  Is the Ethernet speed from the POE switch to the Media Server 1 Gbps?  Is there other IP traffice through the POE switch?  The maximum datarate from the switch to MSP might be around 630Mbps.  For the streaming loss to be as short as a few seconds suggests it might be buffer management issues in the switch.

Are there streaming outages with 1 camera?  2 cameras?, 3, etc?  At what point do the outages begin?

Try Dirk's suggestion of connecting direct to the cameras with a browser or VLC to confirm lossless video stream.  This might add more traffic through the switch.

It was also suggested to adjust the encoding, bitrate and framerate.  If there is network oversubscription the interruptions may track the overall resulting bitrate - that would confirm it.

There is an analog output on the camera, A/V port, which can be used to confirm that the video imaging section is operating continuously.  Highly unlikely to have any issues, but the port is there if needed.

Another check is to connect the cameras to 24VAC to confirm there's no issue with POE power to and HD camera.

Ronald

I've tried to browse directly to the camera. It works fine, except the video got freeze for a couple seconds every minute.

I've also tried a different bitrate/compression type, but it still not resolve the problem

the ethernet speed from the switch to the server is 1Gbps, and this IPVS deployment is not integrated to the existing network, so there should be no other ip traffic besides the cameras.

I'm currently not in the customer site, maybe I'll come back there around next week, and I'll try those external power solution. Hope it resolve the problem. And I'll let you guys know about the result.

Couple other thoughts:

What is the status of the switch ports?  Are they cycling through port disable?

Is there fiber in camera network?  Are the optical connections / SFPs working error free?

Ron,

nope, its not cycling to port disable. I believe the fiber are working properly, because I dont have any problem with the 2600 neither with 2900 series camera. it just happen to all the 4300 IP cameras.

I did some experiment yesterday, I connect the camera directly to the core switch and using a power adaptor. it works fine for 1 day, but after I unplug-plug the power adaptor, this problem happens again

the connection are in full-duplex, Ron. Are they supposed to be in half-duplex?

i noticed that when the camera got disconnected from the server, the status light on the camera (beside the ethernet port) is turned off.

please help, i really got frustrated with what happened here

thanks

This sounds like the port POE power is not adequate for the 4300.  Losing the status light can happen if the Ethernet physical interface board in the camera powers down, or is underpowered.   If the power adapter works long term, then installing a separate power supply with POE power injectors might be a work around. I've seen power cycling problems but they've all had cycling times longer than a few seconds.  What else is connected to the switch?  Is any of that gear POE powered?  Some switches have port power management, perhaps this is interacting across the camera's ports, what happens if just one 4300 is connected to the switch?

Ron, Considering your extensive familiarity with our system, can you answer this same question regarding all the 4500 HD cameras at Lake Highlands Station?  I have modified camera 1 so that it has the same firmware and settings as all the other HD cameras in our system, but there is no change in the resulting live view...the camera log is still showing channel1 starting and stopping intermittently.

This is the only station experiencing this problem.

Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
