Direct Attached Storage

Hi, Cisco:

May I know what exactly is the use case of Cisco FC in Switch Mode beside using it for Direct-Attached FC or FCoE Storage? With a Direct-Attached NAS with Ethernet in End-Host Mode but with FC in Switch Mode, will it work and what is the implications? IS it mandatory to change it to End-Host Mode for FC too?

Yes, UCS is 2.0(##).

Thanks.

KP,

here is a table which should be able to answer some of your questions:

Thanks!

Hi Abhinav,

I am trying to acheive FCoE direct attach storage. Doesn't have any other FC switches.

I have a FI (Ethernet: EHM & FI: FC Switching), port 1/17 is directly connected to EMC-CX-4. But I don't see the speed on EMC-CX4 box. Do you have any steps to get this configuration working?

Rgds,
Raghu

Put some notes on my blog at one time about Appliance Ports

http://wp.me/p2daBl-2h One note to add, is you don't have to PIN. Need to update that post some but have not tested in out in the lab yet.

With the 6100 series FI's you have to set the FC module to Switch Mode to direct attach a SAN device. That can be a pain if you need to attach to multiple fabrics. Wondering if with the new 6248's you can go FC switched or passthrough per port? That would be a great feature. Would be nice to direct attach a SAN device (think boot SAN) switch mode, and attach to other SAN's passthrough mode.
