UCS FC Port-Channel to MDS Failing

ufjp

Hello all, I'm attempting to create an FC port-channel from my 6120XP to an MDS 9148. I have NPIV as well as F-Port-Channel-Trunking features enabled. Right now I'm just trying to get the port-channel itself working and not worrying about the trunking aspect just yet (uplink trunking is turned off on the FI). The MDS is running 5.0(1a) and the FIs are on 2.1t. I have confirmed that single uplinks do come up, but whenever I try to bind them into a port-channel, the links themselves go into an "error disabled" state. I've gone over previous articles and docs on here and haven't been able to shed any light on why this isn't working. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Uplink error and MDS configs below. Thanks!

feature npiv

feature fport-channel-trunk

interface port-channel 4

  channel mode active

  switchport mode auto

  switchport rate-mode dedicated

  switchport trunk mode off

interface fc1/13

  switchport rate-mode dedicated

  switchport trunk mode off

  port-license acquire

  channel-group 4 force

  no shutdown

interface fc1/14

  switchport rate-mode dedicated

  switchport trunk mode off

  port-license acquire

  channel-group 4 force

  no shutdown

Hello,

Does VSAN configuration on both ends match ?

On UCS FI

connect nxos

show int san-port-channel X

MDS

show int port-channel X

Padma

Hi Padma, thanks for the response. It appears so, I'm using the default VSAN (1) for both ends, which seems to work for single links. Here's the output from both ends:

MDS:

HSANSW1# sh int port-channel 4

port-channel 4 is down (No operational members)

    Hardware is Fibre Channel

    Port WWN is 24:04:64:00:f1:2e:d2:f8

Admin port mode is auto, trunk mode is off

snmp link state traps are enabled

    Port vsan is 1

    5 minutes input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec

    5 minutes output rate 0 bits/sec, 0 bytes/sec, 0 frames/sec

      54 frames input, 6152 bytes

        0 discards, 0 errors

        0 CRC,  0 unknown class

0 too long, 0 too short

      50 frames output, 5908 bytes

        0 discards, 0 errors

88 input OLS, 30 LRR, 18 NOS, 0 loop inits

61 output OLS, 4 LRR, 64 NOS, 32 loop inits

FI:

UFAB1-B(nxos)# show int san-port-channel 4

san-port-channel 4 is down (No operational members)

    Hardware is Fibre Channel

    Port WWN is 24:04:54:7f:ee:1f:89:80

Admin port mode is NP, trunk mode is off

snmp link state traps are enabled

    Port vsan is 1

Would you provide the output of the interface configs

show run interf fc 1/13-14

show run interf san-port-channel 4

Thanks

Dave

Sure, thanks Dave:

HSANSW1# sh run int fc1/13-14

!Command: show running-config interface fc1/13-14

!Time: Fri Jan 20 10:01:40 2012

version 5.0(1a)

interface fc1/13

  switchport rate-mode dedicated

  switchport trunk mode off

  port-license acquire

  channel-group 4 force

  no shutdown

interface fc1/14

  switchport rate-mode dedicated

  switchport trunk mode off

  port-license acquire

  channel-group 4 force

  no shutdown

UFAB1-B(nxos)# sh run inter san-port-channel 4

!Command: show running-config interface san-port-channel 4

!Time: Fri Jan 20 18:02:39 2012

version 5.0(3)N2(2.1t)

interface san-port-channel 4

  channel mode active

  switchport mode NP

Sorry, one more thing, The output of show vsan memebership from UCS and MDS, you can trim to just the fc and san-port-channels if you want.

Being in non-trunk mode, VSAN membership of all interfaces fc and port-channel must match

Dave

Not a problem:

MDS:

HSANSW1# sh vsan membership int fc1/13-14

fc1/13

        vsan:1

        allowed list:1-4078,4080-4093

fc1/14

        vsan:1

        allowed list:1-4078,4080-4093

FI:

UFAB1-B(nxos)# sh vsan membership int fc2/1-2

fc2/1

        vsan:1

        allowed list:1-4078,4080-4093

fc2/2

        vsan:1

        allowed list:1-4078,4080-4093

Well I guess there's an issue with the 9148. We have a 9124 that had a single free port so I configured the PC on it maching what the 9148 had and it came up immediatley. Both MDSs are on the same NX-OS version 5.0(1a). Any config ideas (I'm comparing the configs now) or maybe a bug?

CSCta97375

Thanks, I've been meaning to update, but the issue still isn't resolved. We're hitting bug: CSCtq08625

The switch also has a field notice for incorrect MAC programming. The new OUIs were included in FM 5.0(4d) and later I believe (we're running 5.0(4d) and no problems with it). Right now TAC is escalating to development.......
