We have an office that is going to have a dedicated layer 2 connection to our COLO as their Primary link to VPN and Resources, and there is going to be a backup 10 mg link to the internet. I have been tasked with finding the best way to set up dynamic failover in this scenario should we lose the primary layer 2 connection. It was suggested by one of my co-workers that we consider using GRE. The thought is that we could build a GRE tunnel so that we could peer the switches (L2 peering) and set up dynamic failover. We have Cisco 3560 switches at the remote office and Juniper 4200 switches at our COLO.
Has anyone here on the forums tried this approach?
Does anyone here have a different suggestion of the best way to set this up?
Please let me know your thoughts.
