Relevant MIBs and OID for snmp(get) on MDS 9509 switch

Hello folks

We're playing with quite a few MDS9509, 9513 and other Cisco references.

Good thing for us : it works so well that we haven't been that much into monitoring of thoses boxes

However, as we've been working on snmp get for other pieces of hardware, we realized it would be interesting to know if a module / powersupply, or fan would go down.

As for now, I'm playing command line with snmpwalk to test things out.

Then, I'm having the BMC Portal product implements those tests in production (with alarm threshold and such).

While getting the sysDescr proved simple, I have difficulties playing with MIB files and finding the correct OID for interesting elements.

snmpwalk -v2c -c whatever tig_sauve11 sysDescr

SNMPv2-MIB::sysDescr.0 = STRING: Cisco NX-OS(tm) m9500, Software (m9500-sf2ek9-mz), Version 5.0(4b), RELEASE SOFTWARE Copyright (c) 2002-2010 by Cisco Systems, Inc. Compiled 11/16/2010 23:00:00

For the record, this is an MDS9509 switch :

Hardware

  cisco MDS 9509 (9 Slot) Chassis ("Supervisor/Fabric-2")

  Motorola, 7447A, altivec  with 1033004 kB of memory.

  Processor Board ID JAF1429BHMT

I've read of post mentionning the module* variables in the CISCO-STACK-MIB :

  moduleGrp    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3

  moduleTable    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1

  moduleEntry    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1 <<<<

  moduleIndex    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.1

  moduleStatus    1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.10 <<<<

However :

$ snmpwalk -v2c -c supervision tig_sauve11 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.5.1.3.1.1.10

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.5.1.3.1.1.10 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID

Those environment OIDs looked cool two :

ciscoEnvMonTemperatureStatusTable (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.3)

ciscoEnvMonVoltageStatusTable(1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.2)

ciscoEnvMonFanStatusTable(1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.4)

ciscoEnvMonSupplyStatusTable(1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5)

But again :

$ snmpwalk -v2c -c supervision tig_sauve11 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.13.1.5

SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.9.13.1.5 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID

I don't know whether my switch implement those OID or not, or if I'm not good at playing with MIB files ...

I've uploaded a few MIB files to my .snmp/mibs directory :

ADIC_INTELLIGENT_STORAGE_MIB.mib  CISCO-SMI.mib        SANMGR_PROXY_MIB.mib

ADIC_MANAGEMENT_MIB.mib           CISCO-STACK-MIB.mib  SML-MIB.mib

CISCO-ENVMON-MIB.mib              ENTITY-MIB.mib       SNIA-SML-MIB.mib

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yvon
