Has anyone upgraded vsom 3.x to 6.x?

Is there an upgrade path from 3.x to 6.x that anyone knows of?

I can't seem to find any documantations from CISCO on how to do it...

Any ideas? Sucessful upgrade?

Hello Tuan,

Upgrading from VSOM 3.1 to 6.3.2 is possible, and is made relatively painless by a shell script written by a colleague of mine.  You can find a link to the Cisco VSM Software Assistant for version 6.3.2 here:

https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-17123

How to use the script to perform and install or upgrade

  1. Download the necessary .zip files from Cisco.com
  2. Copy them to the VSM server in any directory
  3. Copy this script to the same directory as the .zip files
  4. Make this script executable   (chmod +x vsmSoftware632.sh)
  5. Run the script (./vsmSoftware632.sh)
  6. Answer simple questions when prompted.

This tool performs all of the necessary command line operations for you, in a menu-driven format.  Upgrade from 3.1.1/5.1.1 to VSM 6.3.2 is supported.  You will of course want to ensure all media servers and the VSOM server are upgraded to the same version.

I hope that helps,

Jim

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your prompt respond. I have used this script many times and it works great, but never thought that it would possible to apply in this case.

I just heard that there is no upgrade path from 3 to 6. I guess I will have to lab it up and try...
