Connection backup issue.

I respectively connected two routers with two ethernet port. one is primary and second is backup. However, after i shut down primary port. the backup mode of backup connection change to disabled instead of acting as backup... Could someone help me?

Using backup interfaces is primarily used for Dialup/ISDN lines, is that what you are using? Also, I do believe that a manual shutdown of the primary interface does not trigger the failover - try yanking the cable.

Secondly, if this is traditional Ethernet, you may be best using IOS SLA with tracking objects for failover.

I am using the backup on two ethernet connections. and since i am testing the topology on GNS3, i can not yank the cable. :-P and i will try use IOS SLA.
