"Open and Close" auto attendant

I have been asked by the customer for a button to press when they want to "Close" the phones and send the main number strait to the auto attendant for after hours and press to "Open" and send it back to the hunt group.

I have pitched the timed routes but they would like to close when the "work is finished"

Anyways I have gone over a few solutions in my head but wanted to put it out there in case someone has put a solution like this in production before with success.

Create a different number for the Auto Attendant from the main number, add that number as speed dial to the receptionist's phone and then train her/him to do call forward All to this speed dial.

That would work if this was a receptionist.

Call flow:

Main number 2400 - HP 1607 - Routes to 3 of the 6 employee in the building. No answer to VM.

If you ask me you just have the VM give the hours of operation and if you have reached this recording blah blah but they are insisting on a button..
