VCS Backup Password Question

Justin Ferello

Hey all,

If I have a VCS backup file, is there a way to reset the 'admin' or 'root' password in the backup file before uploading it to the new VCS?  We get a lot of VCS backup files for troubleshooting purposes and when we upload them to our lab VCS'es we can no longer get into them without physically rebooting the VCS and doing 'pwrec'.

Thanks,

Justin

Hi Justin,

I believe the upload you are doing is via web GUI and after the upload it takes back to login window..

Can you confirm if you are able to login to root after pushing the back up file. If yes, then try this.

- login to root and run the command tsh

- you would be now in admin prompt

- create a new temporary account to login to web by using below commands

xconfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 Name:

OK

xconfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 password:

OK

xconfiguration SystemUnit AdminAccount 3 Access: ReadWrite

OK

You can login to web GUI using this account. However please note that with this newly create account you can't login to command line.

Now reset the password for original admin account. and logout and login again using the original admin account.

Once logged in you can delete the temp account you created.

Note: This all can be done if you have access to root account.

Thanks

Alok

just to be clear "3" is the number of admin account i have on my VCS

cheers

Alok

All,

I was mistaken, when you do the restore, it does overwrite the admin account password, but not the root account.  I thought I had my root account at default but I did not.  Sorry for confusing anyone.

Thanks,

Justin
